On Day 22 we discussed commenting on your fanpage wall to get more exposure and more viral activity about your business. Likes are as important if not more important than the comments, but ‘Likes’ has two meanings on Facebook. Who ever thought that the term like would take on two meanings, Mr Zuckerberg of course, and there are two very different ways to like and each has a different response and strategy on Facebook.

Likes ‘squared’ on Facebook for your fanpage

For your fanpage, not your personal page, there are two liking strategies. You can like comments which is great for exposure and you can like other businesses which will populate your fanpage wall. Both need to be done and it is a great idea to add both liking strategies to your plan.

Many of you emailed us after our Day 22 post when we discussed commenting on your wall posts. What many of you found was that there was no activity on your fanpage wall. Nada, Zero and nil! I can see where you had your heart attack and I think some of you were ready to ditch the 30 days to Facebook Freedom thinking that we were a little off the wall, literally. So lets see why many of you opened your fanpage wall and found….nothing….

Facebook is set up like a cocktail party, if you dont like people no one will like you back. Your fanpage needs to like ther businesses so you get a conversation on your wall. If you don’t reach out and like other fanpages you will not be included in conversations. Your fanpage needs to like other fanpages to populate your wall. This is how you get the conversation going and spread your news and know what other news businesses are sharing. When you friend other people on your personal profile their conversations are automatically added to your wall. Businesses need to like other businesses to get that conversation posted to their wall. Got it?

This is ‘Like’ strategy Number 1. Like other businesses and get some movement on your wall.

Question! But do I want to show other businesses what I am sharing with my guests and clients, do I want to share my fans with others and maybe have them book with someone else.

Answer! ‘Like’ businesses that will be helpful for your clients, like businesses that provide useful information to your guests and clients, like other businesses cause it is in good faith and sharing. There is not a business on the planet that can florish without the support of other business owners, no one can exist on an island, and do you really want to. The most successful businesse,s big and small, share – they combine efforts and work together. Facebook is built on this theory and you never know who will throw business your way when they see what you do.

How to like other businesses using your fanpage

Here are the rules:

1. A fan page can only like other fanpages, a fanpage can not take on a friend.

2. Like every day but dont like a million fanpages in one day as Facebook will not like this and could block your for a little while (spamming)

3. Go through who liked you in your admin panel and like other fanpages who liked you

4. Use Facebook search to find other businesses that interest you and reflect who your business is.

5. Like local and international businesses…….it just makes your karma more widespread.

6. Like businesses when you are using Facebook as your fanpage, not your personal profile!

Liking other peoples comments on your fanpage wall

Now liking comments  is also a great fanpage strategy as you will see and be seen. It is like being at a party and not chatting with everyone, but people know you are there! Like other people’s comments on your fanpage wall every day so your are seen in Facebook land and other people see that you are in Facebook and…it is just nice…..

Similar to commenting, make sure you are using Facebook as your fanpage, go to your wall (home in the top of Facebook) and start liking. Again’ like other people’s comments with moderation and intention, as Facebook dislikes serial likers and commenters. You ‘like’ by pressing the like button on a post. It take 2 seconds and can bring you miles of great exposure.

Liking a post is idetical to showing  support towards another business but in a quiet way. Liking also gives you more exposure on Facebook and will help you to been seen.

Likes are more than just a thumbs up!

Facebook was clever when defining their likes but these two different liking strategies are not clear to the Facebook user. For those who had a heart attack on Monday, and there were quite a few of you, congratulations on unlocking yet another FB secret. Now that you know about liking other fanpages you will see how your likes for your fanpage will start to increase!

We have less than a week to go on our 30 days to Facebook Freedom. The final days will cover more secrets and unleash more useful practices for your fanpage. If you are just joining us now, start on Day 1 of this program, and follow at your own pace. If you feel encouraged with the program and have been following us since the beginning, it is not a bad idea to go through the 30 days again and refine what you had done on Day 1.

See you Friday for more Facebook Freedom Strategies! Thanks for all your feedback and learnings. We really are loving this program and hope you are gaining some great insight.
